Tennis Education and Mentoring (TEaM)

A partnership between the Yale University Athletics Department and New HYTEs, our flagship Tennis, Education and Mentoring (TEaM) after-school program provides life skills mentoring, academic tutoring and tennis instruction to students from New Haven public schools with the objective of enhancing educational outcomes, increasing the adoption of positive choices and improving health and fitness. Throughout the school year, program participants are bussed from their schools to the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center at Yale for two and a half hours of programming. Sessions begin with a healthy snack and introductory activities, followed by an hour of tennis instruction and an hour of life skills mentoring/academic tutoring provided by a group of volunteers. During the summer months, students participate in our Summer Academy where they continue to receive tennis instruction and engage in life skills and academic support activities.
