FAQs

How can my child participate in New HYTEs programs?
We partner with specific public schools in New Haven to recruit students for our flagship TEaM after-school program. As a result, we do not accept applications for participants.

Our Tennis in the Neighborhood program is currently targeted at the Dixwell/Newhallville neighborhoods of New Haven. If you are a resident of these communities and would like additional information on Tennis in the Neighborhood, please contact Mavi Sanchez-Skakle, Executive Director at msanchez@newhytes.org.

Our Junior Team Tennis program is open to students from the Greater New Haven area who are ready to participate in competitive tennis. If you would like additional information on Junior Team Tennis, please contact Mavi Sanchez-Skakle, Executive Director at msanchez@newhytes.org.

How much does it cost to participate in New HYTEs programs?
There is no cost to participate in our TEaM or Tennis in the Neighborhood programs. There is a $121 fee for each season of JTT (which includes a $21 USTA fee). Fee reductions or waivers are available based on family income and the number of students enrolled per family. No player will be turned away due to an inability to pay.

What equipment does my child need?
We will provide tennis racquets for students in our TEaM and Tennis in the Neighborhood programs. Participants in JTT are generally expected to provide their
own racquets, but we can make arrangements to provide racquets if necessary.

What happens in the event of rain, snow, etc.?

If any of our programming is threatened due to weather, we will send out an email with advanced notice of a possible cancellation specifying the time by which a decision will be made about canceling the session. A second email will be sent out communicating this decision. Parents/guardians without email access will be contacted by phone.
